Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you Ian Michael Crumm, our resident men's fashion expert, here to share style pointers and tips for tackling the latest trends in menswear. Straighten those neckerchiefs—Ian is on the go!
As fall temperatures cast upon the Philadelphia skyline, men will inevitably alter their grooming regimens to fit the cooler climates. Luckily, Henry A. Davidsen, the custom clothier and wardrobe consultant business on 17th Street, has just partnered with 2B Groomed Barbering Studios on a new venture called T.R.I.M (Tradition Restored In Men). This season, males will be able to shop the latest menswear, sip on a cocktail, and now have a grooming treatment in a traditional barber's chair. Services include expert haircuts ($32—$45) and straight-razor shaves ($35—$65).
It's important to keep a well-groomed appearance while styling modern. Brian Lipstein, founder of Henry A. Davidsen, comments on men's hair trends: "Balancing and working with what you have [is key]. Something that's going to be trendy in fashion is probably going to throw off that balance." While maintaining balance in your appearance, you can still play with current hair trends, like the throwback 1930s and 1940s styles that 2B Groomed owner and master shaver Jahmal Rhaney notes as being in style this season. No doubt, Rhaney's intel is on-point: Both classic and retro styles have gone down designers' runways recently. Modern quaffs, slick backs, and other cuts are appropriate for pulling off a balanced look while still remaining in touch with the fashion world. Whether you are looking to go with a traditional buzz-cut or maybe a retro-inspired style, you are sure to love the private grooming experience that T.R.I.M. provides. T.R.I.M. will celebrate its grand opening on September 11, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, where the first 30 guests will receive a special gift bag and complimentary services.
