Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
This is happening. Construction is underway for Philadelphia's first-ever Nordstrom Rack, which is scheduled to open in the old Daffy's space at 17th and Chestnut this fall. The off-price retail division of Nordstrom will occupy four floors—39,000 square feet—of the eight-story corner building, with the first three floors devoted to selling space.
Judging by these construction photos snapped by Philadelphia Real Estate Blog, shoppers will be able to sidestep the building's crotchety old elevators in favor of brand-new stairways, which may lessen the waiting time between finding that perfectly-priced handbag and handing your credit card over to the cashier.
