Welcome to Playing Favorites, wherein local shopping and fashion gurus provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around Philly that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

After a brief hiatus and a website redesign, Jimmy Contreras's PhillyStreetStyle is back online, bringing with it the longtime Philly lifestyle/fashion expert's signature sass and irreverent view on our city's fashion scene.

After the jump, the media personality takes a time-out from his packed social calendar to reveal the shops he counts on for undies, tailored suits, and last-minute hostess gifts to get him out of an "oops, forgot I had a party tonight"-type blunder.

I love this newer boutique on Fabric Row. The owner [David Grimes] is super friendly. Here, I'll find cool brands like Matt & Nat and Old School Shirt Maker NY. Last week, I stopped in and found the perfect pair of underwear by pull- in. They're super comfortable and make you look good underneath your pants! [Image credit: Armour/Facebook]

Saks' Bala Cynwyd location stocks fabulous buttondown shirts from Vince and an awesome denim selection—from the classic 7 For All Mankind to trendy Hudson Jeans. Plus they carry one of my fave bracelet brands, Miansai by Michael Saiger. You can never have too many bracelets! [Image credit: Saks Fifth Avenue]

Suitsupply

I have to look my best for special events, and Suitsupply helps me look extra stylish. It's all about the fitted tailored look and no one does it better than Suitsupply. I recently wore an awesome navy suit when I hosted the 3rd Annual Red Carpet Party at The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia. [Image credit: Suitsupply/Facebook]
ToBox has fabulous personalized service and cool shoe brands. I have my eyes on a pair of SWIMS! These shoes come from Norway made with rubber and mesh. It's my "must have" water shoe because it's never too early to start thinking summer at the Jersey Shore. PS: The store is currently hosting a sale on their fall/winter items. Macy's always has great sales within their third-floor home section. I can't get enough of the Ralph Lauren Langdon Solid Collection. These sheets make me happy and make your bed luxurious! Let me repeat that: Never buy these at full price. Shop the sales! [Image credit: Macy's]

Paper on Pine

I get all my personalized stationery and greeting cards here. They even have old school scratch n' sniff birthday cards! And they always bail me out with a quick "I forgot I had a housewarming" Voluspa Candle. [Image credit: Paper on Pine/Facebook]

Sweet Box Cupcakes & Bake Shop

No shopping spree is ever complete without a snack! And if you know me, you know I love cupcakes. I think Sweet Box Cupcakes are the best, and so does Craig LaBan. My fave flavors include Tiramisu, Chocolate Coconut Snowball, and Chocolate Chip Pound Cake with Chocolate Icing! Yum. P.S. Their flavors change daily. [Image credit: Sweet Box Cupcakes/Facebook]
